Pain Relief Ireland

First Irish President of the World Institute of Pain!

Pain Relief Ireland are delighted and proud to congratulate Professor Dominic Hegarty as the new President of the World Institute of Pain (WIP). Elected by his peers Prof. Hegarty has stepped into this role since 1st May and will become the first Irish doctor in the 30th years of the organisation to be 15th president. With over 4,000 members worldwide he brings an enormous amount of experience to the position.

Over the years Prof. Hegarty, has hosted the World Congress in Dublin, he was in charge of the treasurer where he restructured WIP financially and has served as president elect in one of the most challenging periods in the history of pain medicine as we went through and emerged from the pandemic.

We are delighted to say that despite his schedule he will continue to have a busy practise and will continue to deliver the newest and best treatment options for our patients.

Dear Friends,
It is a great honour and privilege as your President to serve the WIP community. I am fully aware of the legacy, tradition, and ambition that WIP has to continue the work of those before me. I have been directly involved with the board of WIP for almost 10 years and I have seen many changes, developments, and challenges. I will bring this experience into this role, and I hope it will leave WIP in a better place when I hand over the reign to Prof. Miles Day in 2025.

My vision for WIP is simple, to be the global leader in interventional pain education and to promote excellence in pain management so that pain physicians can provide all patients with the best care possible.

This will be achieved through educational programs, conferences, workshops, webinars, industry support, examinations, and friendship. We want to grow our community of FIPPs & CIPPs by 30% over the next 2 years, reaching out into regions and territories where pain management is needed.  We need your help to do this. We need your support to attend meetings, teach, promote and when needed act as loyal ambassadors.

Over the next 6 months we have plenty of learning opportunities. In August will have our Budapest Conference and examinations. This will be followed in October by our 12th World Congress in Antalya Turkey (Oct 28-30th).  The team are working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure you will have one of the best experiences. This will be the largest in-person WIP world congress since the time Ireland had the honour of hosting WIP in Dublin and I truly encourage you to ensure you are there for what is going to be an exciting academic and cultural celebration. This combined with the continued developments in Twainian, USA, and Hungary means that 2023 will be truly amazing.

I congratulate those appointed to the new Executive Board and I am confident that they, like those who served before it, will strive to serve the members of WIP in the best possible way.

Please continue to support WIP because the legacy depends on you.
Regards
Prof. Dominic A. Hegarty
